Speechless juxtaposition

We were forced to make a brief return from our self-imposed sabbatical by what we and everyone else saw on page A-4 of today's Dispatch. Even in the throes of our Ambien-induced fog, the effect was remarkable.

Maybe it was accidental, but we doubt that some editor didn't fully understand the clash of values powerfully represented by the photo of the grief-stricken mother of a Westerville Marine, the photo of a President just few miles away yucking it up and signing autographs (too "busy" to attend the funeral), and a story about the half-baked explanations from the Veep defending his drinking 'n' shooting.

It's pretty unmistakable and horribly ugly.
